Ty Flyer
Raises
Some Interesting Questions
It is believed that the
Ty advertising poster below is from early 1995.
Upon close inspection, we were surprised to discover that several of the Attics pictured, including Murphy, Brewster, Grover, Cassie,
and Cody, were pictured with first generation hang tags although they were introduced early in 1995 with second generation hang
tags. Note the placement of the hole on
Cassie to the right which is characteristic of a first generation
tag. Close scrutiny also shows Valentino pictured with a first generation
hang tag even though introduced with a second generation hang tag. It appears that on some of the pieces, the hang tag may have been
superimposed over the picture of the piece. In addition, the placement of the hang tags on Brewster and the white Plush bunny,
Angora are in the
right ear instead of the left. While the hang tag fastener is clearly visible on
the second generation Benjamin, when we enlarged the pictures of the Attics in question,
it appeared that Grover and Cody did have attached hang tags, and that, most likely, Murphy, Brewster, and Cassie did
not. This poster raises some interesting questions. Is it possible that the prototypes of some of these pieces were produced with first generation hang
tags? Although a few Ty posters have pictured product with hang tags, this
if the first flyer we know of to do so. This begs the question, why would Ty superimpose pictures of hang tags
over only some of the pieces, especially when Ty products are almost always pictured without hang tags?
