New Tush Tag

The two new Patriotic Attic Treasures Washington and Uncle Sam hit the store shelves yesterday. The interesting thing about these two pieces is that Ty has changed the style of the tush tag. No longer is it a folded tush tag open on both sides. The tag appears to be a single piece tush tag, but it is, in fact, two thin pieces of material sewn together on the sides and at the top.  Uncle Sam's tag line is "As American As Apple Pie!" while Washington's is "Land Of  The Free!"

Washington The Rabbit Attic Treasure

What makes "Washington" so interesting is his sweater/jacket which is the same navy blue color with white star pattern as George Washington's personal flag.   Throughout the American Revolution, the Commander-in-Chief's flag was flown wherever he went..  Today, a replica of this flag flies at Washington's headquarters at Valley Forge.  Source:  Washington's Flag 1775.

It is believed that Washington's flag was incorporated into the American flag.  "On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress, seeking to promote national pride and unity, adopted the national flag. Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."  Source:  Betsy Ross and the American Flag
